About Home Care

Getting assessed for a Home Care package

In order to be eligible for Government home care support, you will need to have a free, independent assessment to determine the level of care you require, based on your needs and circumstances.

This assessment is performed through an Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) or Aged Care Assessment Service (ACAS) in Victoria. Your aged care assessment can be scheduled by contacting MyAgedCare directly. The first step involves a short eligibility check, which can be completed online or over the phone. This is followed by an in-person assessment by members of the Aged Care Assessment Team (ACAT) or Aged Care Assessment Service (ACAS) in Victoria), which is typically carried out in your home.

After the assesment, you will receive a letter advising you of the outcome and the level of care for which you have been approved.

Your assessment results letter will include:

  • the assessment decision, which will confirm whether you are eligible for a Home Care Package or not
  • the level of package you have been approved for, if eligible
  • the reasons and evidence supporting the decision
a copy of your support plan developed during your assessment
