About Home Care
Compliance issues
Information about compliance and quality of care is difficult to find.
My Aged Care provides a Non-compliance checker to assist consumers with making the best Home Care Package provider choice. However accurate and up to date compliance information is not always available for Home Care Package providers.
Who monitors compliance of Home Care Providers?
The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission is responsible for monitoring that Home Care Package providers adhere to the Aged Care Quality Standards. If services do not meet the Quality Standards, the Commission’s response to non-compliance will be risk-based and proportionate. Their goal is to ensure the service returns to compliance and addresses any risks to you or your loved one’s safety, health and wellbeing. If providers don’t comply with these responsibilities, they can have their approved provider status revoked and sanctions may be imposed.
According to the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety’s Interim report, providers can supply home care prior to any quality review being taken by the Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission. They may operate for many months before undertaking a quality review.
Over the three years from 30 June 2014 to 1 July 2018, less than 1% of providers failed a quality standard.
