About Home Care
Income-tested care fee
An income assessment determines if you need to pay this fee
What is a means-tested care fee
If your income is over the maximum income for a full pensioner you will be asked to add a means-tested contribution to your package.
While your personal financial situation won’t affect your eligibility for an HCP, you will be required to undergo a financial assessment, so the Government can work out how much to allocate to you.
How much would I need to pay?
You could pay between $15.43–$30.46 per day if you:
- are single earning over $53,731.60
- are a member of a couple living together earning over $41,121.60
- are a member of a couple living apart due to illness earning over $53,211.60
What if I can’t afford this fee plus the basic daily fee?
Many providers charging a basic daily fee will negotiate with you to make sure the fees are at a level you can afford. You can also choose a provider that doesn’t charge the basic daily fee so you can keep costs down.
